Our Mission
The People Helper Project's sole mission is to prevent hunger in schoolchildren by expanding backpack food programs.
The People Helper Project, established in 2013, is just that...a group of people joined together to help others.
Our main focus? Gathering groups together to help fund vital food outreach and backpack programs in the St. Charles and Lincoln County, Missouri areas. Our specific focus are weekend food backpack programs aimed at helping fight hunger in area school kids.
For several years, school districts in the area determined a need to get food into the hands of children. Although these kids may have reduced or free school lunch programs, many didn't have access to child-friendly snacks and meals during the periods away from school, such as weekends or holiday breaks. School district administrators realized this need and wanted to get food into the hands of these children, without judgement of their peers. The idea came along to send food home to these children in school backpacks. Once the backpacks are returned, volunteers from the community and the school district(s) refill and prepare the backpacks with food donated through Operation Food Search, local businesses and individuals in the community. Typically, there is no money set aside in school district budgets for these weekend backpack programs. They operate entirely on donation and there is often a need to supplement this program every week...that's where we come in.
We'd like to help support this and other similar food outreach backpack programs. Want to help us get food into the hands of more children in need? Feel free to e-mail or call. Check back frequently as we've got exciting and fun fundraising programs on the horizon!
