Why should you be a People Helper donor?
Weekend food backpack programs operate entirely on donations. The last time we checked, none of the school districts we support have money in their annual budgets for these programs. And given the current fiscal condition of most local and state governments, that isn't likely to change any time soon. Here's generally how the programs operate. A school gets support from local church or community groups. They get donations - both monetary and actual food - from organizations like Operation Food Search and local merchants. Food pantries may lend a hand if they're able. When the donated funds and food run out, teachers are left to make up the shortfall or some of the kids are forced to do without. Can you believe that - kids in our communities not having enough to eat? That's crazy. And disappointing. And shocking. These are kids in our hometowns, not remote villages in drought-stricken Africa that you see in TV commercials. Believe it or not, we can do more with money than with canned goods. It doesn't matter if you donate to us, Operation Food Search or your local school district, if they are administering their own program. The important thing is to donate! We have no employees and virtually no overhead. You can rest assured that your money isn't going toward salaries or rent. Our total focus is on getting food into the hands of kids that truly need it. You can also rest assured that the money we raise will be used in our St. Charles and Lincoln Counties. |
Suggested $25.00 monthly donation. |
